SULTENG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) Province has prepared eight units of heavy equipment to anticipate floods and landslides in the area.

"In accordance with the governor's order that the heavy equipment is ready to handle a flood disaster," said Head of Emergency and Logistics for Central Sulawesi BPBD Andi Sembiring in Palu City, Monday, June 20.

Andi said that handling floods and landslides is not only a matter of data collection, logistics and cleaning. BPBD of each region must be able to solve the problem of flooding and reduce its impact.

"It's not just taking data and then finishing. There must be a solution, at least the regional BPBD can minimize the impact of the flood," he said, as reported by Antara.

According to Andi, regional BPBDs need to convey their needs to the provincial BPBDs. So far, the reported handling is only related to the logistical needs and data of the affected victims.

"We think the area can be solved, we are also confused that those who own the area should be more sensitive to the problem," he said.

"Basically we are ready to help, although verbally we are ready. Later on the administrative matters because this is a disaster problem," he added.

Andi hopes that each regional BPBD can use heavy equipment that has been prepared by the provincial government in dealing with the impact of floods and landslides.

"Regions are usually for budget reasons, while the tools already exist and the operational costs are also there," he said.
