Jampidum Agrees To Release Elpiji Tube Thieves To Buy Children's Milk At Amuntai, South Kalimantan

BANJARMASIN - Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) Attorney General's Office Fadil Zumhana approved the release or termination of prosecution of an LPG cylinder thief in Amuntai, North Hulu Sungai Regency, South Kalimantan (Kalsel) for the application of restorative justice.

"With the exposure of this result with Jampidum, the case on behalf of RH who was charged with Article 362 of the Criminal Code regarding theft has been suspended," said Deputy Head of the South Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office, Ahmad Yani in Banjarmasin, as reported by Antara, Monday, June 20.

It was explained that the defendant's case began when he was arrested by the North Amuntai Police of the Hulu Sungai Utara Police for stealing eight 3-kilogram LPG canisters at the Tayur Village office, North Amuntai District.

Then the stolen canister was sold for Rp. 1,200,000. The money was used by the perpetrators to pay a debt of Rp. 400 thousand to his friend and the rest to support his living needs to finance his infant son.

"So the results of the investigator's examination, the perpetrator carried out the theft due to economic pressure for daily needs. The defendant also committed a criminal act for the first time with a loss value of not more than Rp. 2,500,000," explained Yani accompanied by the Aspidum Prosecutor of South Kalimantan Indah Laila.

For all these considerations, the North Sungai Hulu Kejari which handled the case carried out mediation steps against both parties between the victim and the defendant. A peace agreement was reached until an exposure was carried out with Jampidum which was facilitated by the South Kalimantan Attorney General's Office.

Yani said that the defendant deserved to be acquitted of all charges in order to terminate the case in order to avoid negative stigma against the accused in the community.

"The defendant is a father who has a baby and is the breadwinner for the family. He stole because of the pressure of the child's need for milk. So it is appropriate that this case is settled out of court," he said.
