JAKARTA - Acting Governor of West Sulawesi (Sulbar) Akmal Malik asked the district government in this province to boost booster dose vaccination as an effort to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 cases of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.

He said the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of West Sulawesi is also coordinating and asking the government at the district level to increase vigilance against the spread of the new Omicron subvariant.

"All governments in six regencies in West Sulawesi are asked to boost the third or booster dose of vaccination to increase people's immunity in order to anticipate the spread of COVID-19, the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants," he said.

He also asked the West Sulawesi Health Office and all Health Offices at the district level to carry out their respective duties in being aware of this new Omicron subvariant.

"Supporting infrastructure and health workers have been asked to be prepared to be aware of the new Omicron subvariant," he said.

He also asked the public to continue to comply with health protocols, especially to continue to use masks indoors.

"The public must continue to adhere to health protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, and avoiding crowds in an effort to maintain conducive conditions," he said.
