BANDA ACEH - The Banda Aceh National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) team evacuated a Filipino citizen who was also a crew member of a Liberian-flagged tanker due to an accident at work.

The head of the Banda Aceh Basarnas, Budiono, said that the Filipino citizen who was evacuated was on behalf of Baclayo Willy, a 33-year-old male.

"The Filipino citizen is a crew member of a tanker ship named MV Delta Blue. The person concerned was evacuated due to an injury to his head," Budiono said in Banda Aceh, Antara, Friday, June 17.

Budiono said MV Delta Blue sailed from Singapore. During the voyage, the victim Baclayo Willy had a work accident in the engine room causing injuries to the head.

"The request for evacuation was submitted by the captain of MV Maersk Vigo on Thursday at around 19.35 WIB. From this information, the SAR team prepared an evacuation plan," said Budiono.

Furthermore, the Basarnas team coordinated with the tanker regarding the evacuation operation. The Basarnas team moved from Ulee Lheue Port using the KN Kresna 232 ship to evacuate victims on Friday, June 17 at 01.20 WIB.

"The evacuation point is in the Bengal Strait, the waters between Aceh Island, Aceh Besar Regency, and Weh Island, Sabang City. The evacuation point is eight nautical miles or nautical miles from Ulee Lheue Port, Banda Aceh City," Budiono said.

Before being evacuated to the KN Kresna SAR ship, the Filipino citizen underwent a health check and COVID-19 testing as well as complete immigration documents.

"After it was declared that there was no problem, the person concerned was raised by a SAR ship and then taken to the Ulee Lheue Port," Budiono said.

The evacuation process involved the Malahayati Port Health Office (KKP), Customs, Police, Navy, Syahbandar Ulee Lheue officers, immigration, and other relevant agencies.

"Arriving at Ulee Lheue Port, the victim was evacuated to the Zainoel Abidin Hospital in Banda Aceh using an ambulance for further medical treatment. With the evacuation of the Filipino citizen, the SAR operation is closed," Budiono said.
