Ferry Passengers Alert, BMKG Predicts High Waves To Hit South NTT Until June 18

KUPANG - The Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorology Station, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that high waves are likely to hit the southern waters of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province over the next three days.

"High waves are likely to occur in the Indian Ocean south of Sumba-Sabu, the Indian Ocean south of Kupang-Rote and the southern waters of Kupang-Rote with a height of around 2.5-4 meters," said Head of the BMKG Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station, Syaeful Hadi in a statement. written, Thursday 16 June.

Syaeful Hadi said that this potential wave needs to be watched out for because it poses a high risk to ferry shipping.

He appealed to ship operators and local fishermen who have shipping routes at a number of these water points to increase their vigilance.

"Ships or boats that want to cross the water route need to avoid the threat of high waves," he said.

Syafeul Hadi said that in general the waters of NTT have the opportunity to be hit by low waves (0.5-1.25 meters) to moderate (1.25-25 meters) for the next three days.

The potential for medium waves, he said, also needs to be watched out for because it poses a risk to the shipping of barges and fishing boats.

Meanwhile, the forecast for synoptic conditions shows that the wind generally blows from the Northeast to the Southeast with a speed of 2-6 on the Beaufort scale.

Syaeful Hadi appealed to ship operators and fishermen to continue to follow weather forecast information in NTT waters as a consideration for preparing safe and smooth shipping plans.
