JAKARTA - The Ulama National Awakening Party (PKNU) merged into the People's Sovereignty Party (PKR) which will contest the 2024 General Election.

"PKR means People's Sovereignty Party. People's sovereignty must be realized, and people's welfare must be realized and PKR must move forward with its members. Together with all of us, sovereignty must be in the hands of the people, and I see the vision and mission are very clear, almost the same as PKNU," said former PKNU General Chair Choirul Anam who currently serves as Chair of the PKR Honorary Council in a statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 15.

Choirul Anam confirmed his party's decision to go forward with PKR, after previously holding a congress or congress on a ship.

"Now, PKNU needs to change, be it the name, AD/RT, or personnel, because within NU itself, NU doesn't want practical politics," he said.

Currently, the SK during the transition from PKNU to PKR is being processed at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Choirul Anam also ensured that he personally would directly communicate with the relevant ministries so that the decree was immediately issued.

“The enthusiasm of people from various regions in Indonesia is extraordinary to come to this congress. We are certainly grateful, and of course there must be good collaboration between PKNU which has now turned into PKR," said Choirul Anam.

The party congress, which now has a stronger mass base, was held at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Babakan Madang District, Bogor Regency, Sunday (12/6).

PKR General Chairman Tuntas Subagyo emphasized that his party's optimism was not without reason. Formed on the basis of the inherent communication between himself and the former General Chair of PKNU Choirul Anam, PKR has become increasingly rooted to the lowest level of society.

“Our team has been formed in 34 provinces in Indonesia in just 6 months. Together with PKNU, which agreed to change to PKR, we are confident that we will be able to compete in the 2024 General Election," said Tuntas.
