CIAMIS - Ciamis Resort Police arrested a motorcycle thief with the mode of looking for work. The perpetrator stole his employer's motorbike after being accepted as a cilok seller in Yogyakarta.

"The perpetrator who was looking for work had worked for two or three days with the victim," said Ciamis Police Chief AKBP Tony Prasetyo Yudhangkoro during a press conference in Ciamis, Wednesday, June 15.

He said the suspect's initials AW (49), a resident of Mekarmukti Village, Cisaga District, Ciamis Regency, was arrested by the Resmob team of the Ciamis Police Criminal Investigation Unit after the police received a report of a theft case in Sindangrasa Village, Ciamis.

The results of the suspect's examination, said the Police Chief, the suspect's modus operandi was by pretending to ask the victim for work assistance through a friend he had just met in Ciamis.

"The perpetrator and the victim were not acquainted directly, but friends of the victim were first invited to get acquainted with AW, then AW was introduced to the victim," he said, as reported by Antara.

The police chief said that the suspect was then promised a job by the victim by selling cilok in the Yogyakarta area, but before leaving the suspect first worked with the victim in Ciamis.

However, before leaving for Yogyakarta, said the police chief, it turned out that the suspect was spying on the victim's motorbike. When the ignition key was hanging, the suspect immediately took the victim's motorized vehicle to the Banjar City area.

"The action was carried out before the suspect's departure time to Yogyakarta to sell cilok belonging to the victim at the victim's house by taking advantage of the situation and the victim's negligence in not removing the key to his vehicle," he said.

He said the police then detained the suspect, as well as securing a number of evidences including 10 motorbikes allegedly stolen from his house.

The police, he continued, are still investigating the motorcycle theft case and tracing the ownership of 10 vehicles that were secured from the suspect's house.

"We will investigate and we will cross-check both the data and information from the perpetrators, because there are 10 vehicles, we suspect there are 10 crime scenes, both in Ciamis and outside the Ciamis area," he said.

As a result of his actions, the suspect languished in the Ciamis Police detention cell and was charged with Article 362 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
