JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health said that cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Indonesia decreased in the last two years.

"In the last two years during this pandemic the cases have decreased, maybe the wisdom is that Work from Home (WFH) is diligent in cleaning, eradicating mosquitoes, the number of cases has decreased. Hopefully this is not due to under-diagnosis," said Acting Director of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health Tiffany Tiara Pakasi in 'Commemoration of Asean Dengue Day (ADD) 2022' which was followed online in Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, June 15.

He explained that until the 22nd week of 2022, as many as 45,387 dengue cases were reported from 449 districts/cities spread across 34 provinces. Then, there were 432 deaths due to dengue spread across 163 districts/cities in 31 provinces.

The government targets the number of dengue cases in Indonesia to be less than 10 per 100,000 population in 2024 to 2030 with a zero percent mortality rate. Tiffany said, there are six national strategies in dengue control. First, strengthening effective, safe and sustainable vector control.

Second, strengthening the surveillance system and extraordinary event management (KLB). Third, strengthening comprehensive dengue management. Fourth, increasing community participation and independence.

Fifth, strengthening the commitment of the government and local governments as well as the participation of partners and multi-sector. And sixth, the development of research and innovation studies as the basis for determining dengue control policies in the future.

Tiffany Tiara said that the community can take precautions by implementing the 3M plus program, namely Draining, Closing, Reusing waste from used goods that have economic value (recycling).

"The plus is, for example, keeping fish that eat mosquito larvae," he said.

Previously, Dr. Asik Surya, MPPM from the Directorate of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health reminded people who find mosquitoes in their homes to immediately find and eradicate larvae to prevent Dengue disease.

"If there is one mosquito in the house, at least there can be 100-200 larvae, if left for another week it can add 200 mosquitoes," he said.
