Why Are Cyber Attacks So Frequent? This Is The Answer From The Head Of BSSN

JAKARTA - Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) Lieutenant General TNI, Ret. Hinsa Siburian explained that cyber attacks are a consequence of the digital transformation process.

"It should be realized that the higher the level of utilization of information and communication technology, the higher the level of security risks and threats," said Head of BSSN Lt. Gen. TNI, retired. Hinsa Siburian through a written statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday 15 June.

Hinsa Siburian said that the integration of digital technology in every business process has indeed been proven to lead to services that are faster, easier and cheaper.

However, on the other hand, the use of digital technology also creates a vulnerability that allows irresponsible parties to exploit it.

Therefore, the existence of the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), which is a collaboration between BSSN and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, is one solution to overcome cyber attacks.

"This is important in the context of mitigating cyber attacks and incidents," he said as quoted by Antara.

The CSIRT will monitor, receive, review and respond to cybersecurity incident reports and activities. The formation of this team aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation and protect the system against cybersecurity incidents that occur in an organization.

The establishment of the CSIRT is a national strategic priority project in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) with a target of forming 131 CSIRTs.

KUMHAM-CSIRT has been registered with BSSN with registration number 069/CSIRT.01.01/BSSN/05/2022 dated 12 May 2022 and is the 77th CSIRT organization registered with BSSN.

Previously, Secretary General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Andap Budhi Revianto, said that in the last 6 months, the agency received 385,980 cyber attacks or an average of 2,150 attacks per day.
