Explosion Rocks Banyumas, 1 Person Dies

Central Java - One person died as a result of an explosion that occurred in Randegan Village, Kebasen District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java (Central Java).

Head of Kebasen Sub-district, Wahyu Adhi Fibrianto, named the deceased Ahmad Gustomi (28), a resident of Grumbul Leler RT 04 RW 01, Randegan Village.

"The temporary information I received was that the incident occurred at around 17.30 WIB," said Wahyu when contacted from Purwokerto, Banyumas, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, June 14 evening.

Before there was news of the incident, said Village Head Randegan Kasihyono, local residents heard an explosion or a loud bang.

"Usually, according to residents, if there is a loud banging sound, there is an accident on the highway. Incidentally, when there were guests at home, I also heard the sound," he said.

Not long after, he received news that there was a traffic accident on the highway. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for fractures.

"However, not long after, I received information from residents if there was an explosion that caused the victim to die. I went straight to the scene, and there were already many people," he said.

Kasihyono admitted that he did not know for sure the source of the explosion which resulted in the death of a resident.

According to him, the source of the explosion is still unclear because someone said that it came from firecrackers stored in the victim's house.

"However, as far as the surrounding environment knows, he (the victim, ed.) has a decorative lighting business. So, it's still confusing," he said.

In addition to causing one person to die, the explosion also affected four residents' houses in the vicinity of the incident.

Currently, he said, the case has been handled by the Banyumas City Police (Polresta) and the Central Java Regional Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob).

"Teams from Brimob and Inafis Polresta Banyumas have arrived to secure the scene," said Kasihyono.
