Bawaslu-KPU Agree On The Duration Of The Settlement Of Election Disputes For 10 Days

JAKARTA - Bawaslu and KPU have agreed that the duration of dispute resolution for the 2024 General Election will be completed within 10 calendar days.

"This debate has been completed, 10 days, we have agreed (with the KPU) that we understand," said Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 14.

Rahmat Bagja said that after conducting harmonization and discussions with the Indonesian KPU, both parties had reached an agreement.

Bawaslu followed up on the agreement through a circular letter to the ranks at the regional level to carry out an election dispute resolution process for 10 calendar days.

"If there is no mediation, it is possible that the dispute can be resolved in 4-5 days. Mediation can take a day or two if an agreement is reached," he said.

Rahmat Bagja said KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022 still regulates according to the Election Law, which is 12 calendar days of completion.

"However, because of our 75-day campaign, it is better to speed it up. We also agree with this, we recommend to our friends to carry out the processes more quickly," said Rahmat.

Although it is recommended that the duration of dispute resolution be faster, he emphasized that the process must take into account the thoroughness and principles of a fast, fair and accountable trial.

"If it is appropriate, it's no later than (12 days), we recommend to our friends to carry out the processes more quickly, although then we must still take into account the accuracy, the principles of justice, or the principles of a fast, then fair trial. , and accountable," he said.
