JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin said he was interested in making Finance Minister Sri Mulyani a vice presidential candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

However, the Special Staff of the Minister of Finance for Strategic Communication, Yustinus Prastowo, said that Sri Mulyani was now focusing on working to help President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

There are several jobs that Sri Mulyani is currently focusing on, including maintaining the momentum of economic recovery in the country after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Mrs. Sri Mulyani (currently, ed) is committed to focusing on helping President Jokowi maintain the momentum of economic recovery, dealing with the impact of the dynamics of the global political economy, and chairing the G20," Yustinus said to VOI via text message, Tuesday, June 14.

Yustinus emphasized that Sri Mulyani had never discussed the upcoming 2024 presidential election with any party or party. He prefers to focus on his main duties and functions as Minister of Finance.

"Absolutely never discussed or discussed political contestation," he said.

"All discussions are related to state finances and the national economy," added Yustinus.

As previously reported, Cak Imin has repeatedly emphasized that he will run as a presidential candidate in the 2024 General Election. Recently, he has looked at Sri Mulyani, who is now the Minister of Finance as his running mate.

"God willing, we will advance in 2024. We will get a good and right partner, and one of the things I look up to is Mrs. Sri Mulyani, the Minister of Finance. Ask for support from all the people," said Cak Imin after the Nationality Concert at Ahmad Yani Square, Tangerang City, Sunday, June 10.

Even so, Cak Imin emphasized that his interest in Sri Mulyani was not final. There are various possibilities for the political dynamics facing the 2024 General Election.

The same thing, he said, was also carried out by parties who were members of the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB). Meanwhile, regarding the coalition discourse with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), he said it was only a form of exploration.

"Everything that has been done is not final. All parties are like that, maybe one of the final ones is KIB," he concluded.
