Arrested By Police On Alleged Hate Speech, Gus Nur Becomes Makmum

JAKARTA - Sugi Nur Rahardja alias Gus Nur was arrested by Bareskrim Polri in connection with an alleged case of hate speech. Gusnur, who already holds the status of a suspect, was immediately examined intensively by investigators.

On the sidelines of the investigation, investigators gave Gus Nur the opportunity to perform the maggrib prayer at the Police Criminal Investigation Office, Jakarta, Saturday, October 24.

Director of Cyber Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Brigadier General Slamet Uliandi, said that the re-examination was continued after Gus Nur prayed and ate food.

"Earlier the call to prayer, we took a break from the examination. We gave the suspect the ishoma time (rest, prayer, meal) which is the suspect's right," said Brigadier General Slamet.

Gus Nur performed congregational prayers with investigators. This congregational prayer was led by a Bareskrim investigator wearing a navy blue uniform with the inscription of Siber Polri on his back.

Previously, Gus Nur was arrested at his residence in Pakis District, Malang, East Java, Saturday, October 24 in the morning. From his residence, Gus Nur was immediately taken to Bareskrim Polri, Jakarta.

Gus Nur was arrested because he was considered to have spread information that caused hatred or enmity regarding Nahdlatul Ulama through a statement he uploaded on the MUNJIAT Channel's Youtube account on October 16, 2020.

Gus Nur was initially reported by the Head of the Cirebon Branch of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Executive Azis Hakim to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The report numbered LP / B / 0596 / X / 2020 / Bareskrim dated 21 October 2020. Azis reported Gus Nur on charges of committing crimes of humiliation and hate speech through electronic media.

Now Gus Nur is a suspect. Slamet added that the decision to detain Gus Nur was determined within 1x24 hours of arrest.
