JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred on the South Coast of Trenggalek, East Java, on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at around 06.55 western Indonesia time.

"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has an oblique shear movement mechanism or an oblique strike-slip movement," he said.

The earthquake was felt in East Java and parts of Yogyakarta and Central Java, namely in the areas of Kulon Progo, Bantul, Wonogiri, Gunungkidul, Pacitan, Cilacap, Karangkates, Ponorogo, Nganjuk, Blitar, Trenggalek, Klaten, and Karanganyar with an intensity scale of II-III MMI, meaning that the vibration is felt real in the house, the vibration feels as if a truck is passing.

Meanwhile, in Lumajang, Madiun, and Kepanjen it was felt on the MMI intensity scale II or vibrations were felt by some people, light objects that were hung swayed.

"The results of BMKG monitoring have not shown any aftershocks," said Bambang.

Bambang appealed to the public to remain calm and stay away from buildings that were cracked or damaged by the earthquake.
