DENPASAR - The Bali Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) explained that there were four new omicron cases of BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants identified on the island of Bali.

The four cases were apparently discovered during the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) activity which was held from 23 to 28 May 2022, in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali.

"Indeed, four cases were found. The actual case that we sent was when a GPDRR delegation participated in Nusa Dua, Bali," said Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office, I Nyoman Gede Anom when contacted, Friday, June 10.

The four people are one Indonesian citizen (WNI) and three foreign nationals (WNA).

The Indonesian citizen has the status of a committee member at the GPDRR from Jakarta. Meanwhile, the other three people are foreign nationals (WNA), participants in the GPDRR in Bali from America, Brazil and Mauritius.

"One committee member is from Jakarta and the three people are foreigners. At that time (they were) checked at the airport, because at that time we didn't know (the new variant) and the PCR results were positive and we immediately quarantined them at the hotel. We sent the positive to the Ministry of Health on May 26, 2022 and checked again for the virus and it turned out that there were four people who found a new variant," said Anom.

However, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) only released this case on June 9. One person is BA.4 positive and three people are BA.5 positive.

After being found to be positive for COVID-19, they did not participate in activities and were quarantined for five days at the hotel. After that, they were checked again and found to be negative for COVID-19 and immediately sent home.

"They were quarantined for five days. They recovered when they were checked again, if they were positive, they couldn't go home. They probably didn't come because the event was five days and they checked on May 25 and May 26. It seems (they) were not included. The event was over, checked. again it's negative, yes, he returned to his country," explained Anom.
