Anticipating Passenger Jumps, KAI Adds Fleet To Welcome Long Holiday End Of October

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that it will add more fleets. This is in anticipation of a surge in passengers on the long holiday of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday at the end of October.

Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, Zulkifli, said that the addition of this fleet was also carried out so that they could maintain distance, considering that currently the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing.

Not only adding to the fleet, Zulkifli said, his party would also add security officers to tighten the implementation of health protocols in the station area.

The long-distance train travel plan during the long holiday at the end of October, namely, on October 27, the train will operate as many as 87 frequencies. On October 28 there were 80 frequencies, while on October 29 there were 72 trains operating.

Then, on October 30 there were 84 frequencies. Then, on October 31 the trains operating were 83 frequencies. On 1 November the number was increased to 95 frequencies. On November 2, the number again decreased to 73 frequencies.

Meanwhile, for local trains, Zulkifli said the travel plans during the holiday period were 177 frequencies.

"So for local and inter-city trains, we can maintain this passenger capacity to maintain distance," he said in a video conference, Friday, October 23.

On a different occasion, KAI's VP of Public Relations, Joni Martinus said, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) added 13 percent of train trips to serve customers, in order to welcome the Prophet Muhammad SAW's birthday and leave together at the end of October.

"During the long holiday at the weekend, KAI is ready to serve customers by adding additional train trips. That way more and more customers will be able to enjoy a safe, comfortable, safe, and healthy train journey," said Joni, in his official statement, Friday, 23 October.

Joni said, the people's favorite trains that can be ordered during the long weekend include Argo Bromo Anggrek Train, Surabaya Pasarturi-Gambir pp; Argo Parahyangan train, Bandung-Gambir relationship, pp; Jayakarta Train, Surabaya Gubeng-Jakarta Kota, pp; Kertajaya Train, Surabaya Pasarturi-Pasar Senen pp; and various other trains.

Furthermore, Joni explained, the increase in the number of train trips automatically increases the number of seats KAI provides. The number of long-distance train seats from October 27 to November 1 2020 was 221,193 seats, an increase of 13 percent compared to October 20 to 25 of 195,211 seats.
