Commemorating National Elderly Day, Indonesian Student Volunteer Community Visits Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia Social Institution

JAKARTA - Indonesian student volunteer community, KT&G SangSang Volunteer Indonesia visited Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 2 Social Home, Jelambar, on Saturday, 28 May.

Volunteer activities carried out by KT&G SangSang Univ. Indonesia at the Jelambar Social Institution, among others, shared stories with the elderly, beautified the dining room area such as repainting dirty paint walls, replacing worn tablecloths and donating supporting facilities that will provide comfort for the residents of the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia Social Institution. 2 Jelambar. The total donation given for this volunteer activity is Rp. 15 million.

The residents assisted by this social institution were very enthusiastic about participating in volunteer activities including storytelling sessions together. The purpose of the shared storytelling session is to get to know more about the residents in the orphanage and the stories in it.

Theresia, a 63-year-old grandmother, said she was happy with the social activities carried out by volunteer students from KT&G SangSang Univ. Indonesia. According to Theresia, the arrival of external parties to social institutions, especially young people, makes them reminisce about their youth. Theresia also told a little about her current background who lives alone without having children or relatives.

"Thank you brothers and sisters from KT&G SangSang Univ. Indonesia who came to our orphanage to donate and are happy together. This mother is old and lives alone. Living together with the fostered residents of the orphanage and the arrival of the younger siblings certainly makes us happy," he said, in a written statement, Thursday 9 June.

Not only that, KT&G SangSang Volunteer Indonesia also invited the residents of PSTW BM2 Jelambar to sing together. One of the songs sung by the orphans with wisdom is Mars Lansia.

Tresna Werdha BM2 Jelambar Social Home is an orphanage from PSTW BM2 Cengkareng which is one of the task execution units of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Social Service. The inmates who live in this social institution get free living facilities funded by the government.

As inmates, grandparents are equipped with craft knowledge to be able to make handicrafts and the results of these handicrafts can be traded.

Ziova Viandra Sakti, an alumnus of the State University of Jakarta, learned a lot from volunteer activities with residents assisted by the Tresna Werdha BM2 Jelambar Social Institution. Ziova advised young people to always be respectful, polite and love their parents.
