JAKARTA - The level of public trust in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is a law enforcement agency with the lowest level of trust among other institutions, such as the Attorney General's Office and the National Police.

This condition is reflected in the results of a national survey conducted by Indonesian Political Indicators on May 18-24 using random digit dialing (RDD).

This method is a technique of selecting a sample through a random telephone number generation process with a sample of 1,213 respondents.

"The KPK among law enforcement agencies has the lowest level of trust," said the Executive Director of Indonesian Political Indicators, Burhanudin Muhtadi in a survey released on Thursday, June 8.

Overall, the institution with the highest level of trust is the TNI, reaching 85.3 percent; President 73.3 percent; Police 66.6 percent; Attorney General's Office 60.5 percent; and Courts with 51.1 percent.

As for the KPK, the level of trust reached 49.8 percent. Other institutions under the KPK are the MPR, the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), the DPR RI, and political parties.

The margin of error in this survey is less than 2.9 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.

The results of this survey were then responded to by former KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah. This lawyer considered that the anti-corruption commission under Firli Bahuri's leadership was more controversial and gimmicky.

"KPK is now the KPK which in my opinion is full of controversy and we have seen so many gimmicks," said Febri.

One of the gimmicks that Febri mentioned was when the KPK gave a blue vest to the ranks of the State Electricity Company (PLN) on Tuesday, June 31. At that time, the Deputy Chairman of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, draped this vest on top officials at the state-owned company.

According to Febri, giving the vest did not attract sympathy but instead brought criticism. "I saw on social media that there was a Doraemon cartoon that issued a blue vest," he said.

"This is actually a satire that should be viewed more sensitively by the KPK leadership. I'm sure my fellow KPK employees are nervous about the current situation," he said.

Instead of doing unnecessary gimmicks, Febri suggested the KPK to focus on eradicating corruption so that the level of public trust could increase again.

Firli Bahuri and other KPK leaders along with the KPK Supervisory Board are also expected to read the survey results issued by the Indonesian Political Indicators survey agency.

"If law enforcers work in the true sense, yes, then the public will see linearly, 'oh we are starting to believe in this law enforcement.'

"Don't ever think that the public will be interested in the gimmicks presented by law enforcers, moreover it will increase the process of public trust in law enforcement," he concluded.
