President Tries Electric Cars To Be Used By Leaders Of G20 Countries

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) tested an electric car which is planned to be the official vehicle for the leaders of various countries at the G20 Summit, in Bali, November 2022.

The President tried the electric car with First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo during a working visit to the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB) in Batang Regency, Central Java, Wednesday, June 8, as quoted from an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat.

After landing at the Ahmad Yani Army Main Air Base in Semarang City, President Jokowi and his entourage continued their journey to Batang Regency.

After exiting the Gringsing Toll Gate, Batang, the President and Mrs. Iriana then changed vehicles to electric-powered cars and then reviewed the KCC Glass project at KITB.

"I think it's smooth, there's no sound," said the President in his statement at the KCC Glass project area.

The electric car that the President tested was the Genesis from the Hyundai company.

Besides the President and Mrs. Iriana, the Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and PT PP (Persero) President Director Novel Arsyad were also seen riding in an electric car.

In another electric car, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir sat together with Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar. The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, rode another electric car with his wife.

Regarding the electric car, which is planned as the official vehicle for the leaders of the G20 countries at the G20 summit, President Jokowi once said this when he met the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Park Byeong Seug, at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Badung Regency, Sunday, March 20, 2022. .

"This week I attended the launch of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric car, marking the start of electric car production in Indonesia. Meanwhile, another Hyundai electric car, the Genesis G80, will be the official car for the G20 Summit as a showcase for the cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea," explained the President at the time.

To note, the electric car is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 87.2 kWh with a power of 272 kW or the equivalent of 200 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The power is channeled to all wheels with an e-AWD drive system.
