Mayor Of Medan Asks MSMEs To Include Halal Labels On Their Products

MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution asked micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to include halal labels on their products in order to provide certainty for Muslim consumers.

"With this halal certification, consumers will be calmer in consuming a product," said Acting Assistant for Economic Development at the Medan City Secretariat, Mansursyah, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 7.

He conveyed this when reading the remarks of the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution when opening the socialization of halal permits and distribution permits for processed food products at the Medan Mayor's office.

Halal certification, he continued, is a form of legal certainty and government protection for Muslim consumers, so MSME actors must immediately include the halal label.

His party appreciates this activity because it can educate, and at the same time socialize the halal certification process and the licensing process for MSME actors.

"This activity is very important for MSME actors so that they can get complete and comprehensive information about how to administer some of these permits," he said.

The socialization which lasted for two days, namely 7-8 June 2022, presented the speakers on the first day of the Head of BBPOM Medan Martin Suhendri and representatives of the Halal Task Force of North Sumatra Province, Abdul Rahman Siregar.

"The good news is that some of the licensing processes can be obtained at no cost or free as long as they meet the requirements and must be met first," said Masyur.

The head of the Medan City Food Security Agency, Emilia Lubis, said that this activity was aimed at increasing knowledge and insight about the registration of halal permits and distribution permits.

He explained that knowledge and high consumer awareness would greatly support efforts to improve food safety education for food producers.

"The awareness of all parties to improve quality management and food safety is very important. Not only handing over the responsibility of the government or producers, but consumers have an important role," he said.
