The Doctor Who Burned The Workshop And Killed A Family, Rejected His Postponement By PN Tangerang

TANGERANG - The defendant in the case of Merry Anastasia (30), a female doctor who set fire to a workshop in Tangerang City and killed a family member, is being tried again at the Tangerang District Court. Merry was given a four-month suspension of detention due to the labor process.

In this trial, the defendant with the title of doctor was accompanied by the Chairperson of the National Commission for Child Protection, Arist Merdeka Sirait, his attorney, his 2.5 month old son and other family members.

Merry's new attorney, Damos Roha Sijabat, said that his party requested a request for a suspension of detention from the chairman of the panel of judges, Yuliarti, regarding Merry's status, who is still breastfeeding her baby.

"Seeing that Merry is currently breastfeeding. And had consulted a doctor and stated that her child could not be breastfed using formula milk, so we asked for a request for a suspension of detention," Damos told reporters at the Tangerang District Court, Tuesday, June 7.

However, the presiding judge did not immediately grant the request for adjournment. He and the rest of the panel of judges will decide once the trial is over.

After the trial the panel of judges decided not to grant the request for a suspension of detention.

Not long after, Merry met with his son for a few minutes before finally being taken by car to the Tangerang City District Attorney's detention car to the Tangerang City Class IIA Women's Prison, which was previously placed in the Tangerang City Police Rutan Metro.

The case of burning a house that was used as a workshop occurred on Jalan Cemara Pasar Malabar, Cibodas District, Tangerang City in early August 2021. The incident killed three people with the initials ED (63), LI (54), and LE (35). LE is Merry's lover, while ED and LI are LE's parents.

From his case, Merry was charged with multiple layers of charges with an alternative article to Article 340 of the Criminal Code concerning premeditated murder. As well as Article 338 of the Criminal Code regarding murder, Article 187 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code and Article 187 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code which relates to murder and arson that causes the death of another person.

Merry's motive for committing the arson was because she demanded her lover to bear her pregnancy and marriage.
