Perpetrators Of Persecution Of Residents Due To Witchcraft Issues In Probolinggo Arrested

PROBOLINGGO - Police officers moved quickly to arrest the perpetrators of vandalism and mistreatment of residents related to the issue of witchcraft in Alas Tengah Village, Probolinggo Regency, East Java.

"The case started when SN was accused by the perpetrators of practicing witchcraft on RKY (26), a local villager where he had been sick for a month with an enlarged stomach," said Probolinggo Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Teuku Arsya Gaddafi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 7 .

One of the families in Alas Tengah Village, Paiton District, Probolinggo Regency, became a victim after about 50 people visited his house who then assaulted the victim and damaged his house on Thursday (2/6).

Victims SN (66) and MM (62), a married couple live in Alas Tengah Village, Paiton District, Probolinggo Regency. Meanwhile, the perpetrator who mobilized the mass mobilization and the destruction of the victim's house was his neighbor with the initials JL (30).

"The SN victim who was sitting was immediately pulled over by the perpetrators who then beat them together. Not only persecuting SN, the perpetrators also abused MM," he said.

After persecuting SN and his wife, he continued, several other perpetrators entered the house and threw stones and burned the bamboo wall at the back of the victim's house using jerry cans filled with oil that had been prepared by the perpetrators.

"After receiving information about the incident, the Probolinggo Police moved quickly to the location and conducted mass dispersal and security at the crime scene (TKP)," he said.

After conducting an investigation and examining witnesses, he continued, the Satreskrim secured one of the perpetrators with the initials JL and several other perpetrators were being pursued.

He explained that the evidence secured at the scene were 32 stones, 1 jerry can, 1 TV unit, a bottle filled with fuel, and a plastic mica covering the electricity meter, broken tiles, asbestos, windows and doors.

"I appeal to the public not to be easily swayed by hoax issues so that they can harm other people. We make sure the witchcraft issue is a hoax and hope that this incident does not happen elsewhere," he said.
