PSI's Giring Singing That Formula E Was Not Successful

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said that the Formula E Jakarta event was a success. Thus, if there are other parties who judge that the electric car racing event is far from successful, Riza considers it legitimate for people to argue.

"From the plan to the realization of achieving the goal, it means that it is successful. If anyone has a different opinion, feel free," said Riza at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, June 7 evening.

Riza explained the indicators of the successful implementation of Formula E that he caught. The chairman of the DPD Gerindra DKI said, from all processes, the readiness of racing participants, to the presence of state officials when Formula E was held, were included in the goals that had been achieved.

Then, Riza stated that the DKI Provincial Government, BUMD organizers, and the Formula E executive committee also received appreciation from many parties. No less important, he continued, Formula E has succeeded in bringing a message to the public on the importance of using electric vehicles as a substitute for oil-fueled vehicles.

"Formula E is not just an activity but has an important mission, namely clean air, healthy air, blue skies. There is technological transformation there, that's the most important thing. Not only jargon and planning or discourse, but it must be realized, it must be realized," explained Riza.

"Well, that's one of our commitments, Formula E is part of us to ensure Jakarta is ready to accept the transformation of technology to electricity or electric power," he continued.

Previously, PSI General Chair Giring Ganesha viewed that Formula E, which was held on Saturday, June 4, could not be declared a success.

According to him, the crowds of spectators, the presence of high-ranking state officials and political figures who came to watch the live races could not be used as a benchmark that the committee and organizers succeeded in holding Formula E.

"You managed to see it from where? If it's just crowded and frenetic, really, it's not a success," he said.

According to Giring, Formula E can be said to be successful if DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his staff can prove that this racing event can gain profits for the regional treasury and improve the community's economy.

Because of that, Giring emphasized that from the beginning the PSI faction of the DKI DPRD had urged transparency in the use of the budget and the potential for economic benefits to be received from the electric car racing event.

"We have to ask, how much is the profit? How much is the account that goes into it? Then, how much is the budget cost? Profit or loss. If you make a profit, what is the money used for? So if you lose, who will bear it? who bears the public's tax money," he added.
