JAKARTA - Startup Bubu+ (Pet Startup) held a webinar related to caring for animals. The event, which was assisted by 3 student agencies and Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta students, was held with the aim of building public awareness and concern for animals.

The Indonesian Animal Lovers Coalition, (KPHI), Adrianus Hane revealed that currently news of animal abuse is spreading on various social media channels. This makes animal lovers sad and departs from the personality of the Indonesian people who have a polite and friendly personality.

In fact, he said, Indonesia ranks first for uploading the most videos of animal torture.

"This is contrary to the personality of Indonesia as a country that behaves politely and friendly," he explained at the Ketupet (Care to Your Pet) event, Sunday, June 5.

To reduce the level of violence against animals, he also explained the need for education that must be carried out from an early age, starting from schools. The reason is, based on the results of studies of violent convicts, it has been found that they most likely abused animals in their childhood.

Even a study in the Australian police, 100 percent of perpetrators of murder and sexual violence who have been tortured, have tortured animals. In addition, numerous historical records of serial killers are found to tend to initiate the first violence against animals.

"So someone who does violence to animals has a tendency to do it to humans as well," he explained.

Therefore, he also admitted that he is intensively campaigning to the government so that education related to this can enter schools.

"We have even prepared a book module that we will give to the government so that it can be included in the curriculum," said Adrianus.

In addition, there are still many cases of animal torture in Indonesia because existing regulations cannot create a deterrent effect on perpetrators. Because in the Criminal Code, the sanctions are not heavy, especially in Article 302.

Article 302 stipulates that a person who abuses animals (both mild and severe) can be sentenced to a maximum of 9 months and a maximum fine of Rp. 400 thousand.

"The punishment is very small. The rules must be updated in order to have a deterrent effect," he concluded.

For your information, the Ketupet (Care to Your Pet) event itself was organized by Bubu+Vet to voice concern for animals, assisted by 3 student agencies and students from Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta who formed a collaboration, namely Thursday Productive.

This event was held with the aim of building public awareness and concern, not even humans who need welfare, with the framework of One Health Bubu+ is an application for animal lovers that makes it easier for them to consult about their favorite animals with veterinarians because veterinarians are limited, especially for areas not big cities.
