Rusunawa Construction In Pakal Surabaya Is Ready To Resume Work After Being Rejected By Local Residents

JAKARTA - The construction of a five-story simple flat for rent (rusunawa) with 8 blocks on Jalan Jawar, Benowo Village, Pakal District, Surabaya City, East Java, is ready to be carried out after previously being rejected by local residents.

The sub-district head of Pakal Tranggono Wahyu Wibowo said that residents rejected the construction of the Rusunawa last May on the grounds that a vocational school level was more needed because there was no vocational school in the area.

"But at this time, it is still in the process of submitting to the provincial government, and the mayor is submitting it," said Tranggono, quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 5.

According to the plan, he continued, the construction of the Rusunawa was built in stages and for this year only one 5-storey block was built with a capacity of 98 residential units. Meanwhile, the area of the flat area which is an asset belonging to the Surabaya City Government is around 5.4 hectares.

Member of Commission C for the Development of the Surabaya DPRD, Buchori Imron, gave advice to the Surabaya City Government so that the Rusunawa that was built could have more than 5 floors or at least 10-12 floors.

"This is to anticipate if the land in Surabaya runs out to rebuild the Rusunawa," said Buchori.

According to Buchori, if the construction of the Rusunawa has a lot of capacity, it will reduce the queue for the residents of the Rusunawa. Currently, he continued, the queue list reached almost 12 thousand people.

"If it can be built more than 5 floors, the queue can be reduced faster," he said.

However, he said, the Surabaya City Government also needs to calculate the maintenance and electricity costs if the flats are built on 10 or 12 floors, because they will have to use an elevator to get up and down the residents of the flats.
