JAKARTA – The congestion in Bandung is getting worse. Various efforts and developments were carried out in order to reduce traffic in the area so that it was comfortable for residents and tourists. This includes the construction of a number of flyovers in the flower city.

Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the DPR Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras hopes that the construction of the Kopo flyover in Bandung, West Java, can solve the problem of congestion in the area so as to facilitate community mobility.

"This is one of the infrastructure products with adequate results. Various problems that arise can also be resolved properly, including land acquisition," said Iwan in a written statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.

The construction of the Kopo flyover is the result of a collaboration between the Bandung City Government (Pemkot), the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) and the central government. The flyover has a length of 1.3 kilometers with a contract value (including VAT) of IDR 288.7 billion SBSN for the 2020-2022 Fiscal Year.

"This collaboration is certainly very good. If the government at all levels has a contribution, it will certainly accelerate infrastructure development in their respective regions," he said, as quoted by Antara.

He explained that if infrastructure development in the regions solely relied on the state budget (APBN), the completion would be limited, especially in terms of the budget.

Therefore, every level of government should have a role to facilitate the acceleration of infrastructure development in their respective regions, and in accordance with the posture and capabilities of the region.

Meanwhile, DPR Commission V member Dedi Wahidi appreciated the collaboration by the Bandung City Government, West Java Provincial Government, and the Central Government in the construction of the flyover.

Other regions, according to him, can follow the example of this collaboration. For example, local governments provide and settle land, while the central government allocates the budget in the APBN.

"I am very optimistic that the construction of this flyover can unravel the congestion that has been happening in this area," he said.
