Denpasar Prosecutor's Office Deposits IDR 1.022 Billion In State Losses From Corruption

DENPASAR - The Denpasar District Prosecutor's Office recovered the state's loss of Rp. 1.022 billion from the corruption case in the shopping of offerings by the former Head of the Denpasar City Government and Culture Service, I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Mataram.

"Recovery of state losses by depositing Rp1,022,258,750.00 to the State Treasury as Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP)," said Head of the Intelligence Section (Kasi Intel) of the Denpasar Kejari I Putu Eka Suyantha, Friday, June 3.

The money was deposited through BRI Denpasar Gajah Mada Branch Office on Thursday (2/6).

I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Mataram is a convict in a corruption case of the special financial assistance fund (BKK) whose allocation was to buy aci-aci and offerings for traditional villages, banjar adat, and subak. The items for prayer and ritual purposes are for traditional villages, traditional banjars, and subaks in villages throughout Denpasar in 2019–2020.

The Denpasar Corruption Court (Tipikor) in March 2022 sentenced the former city government official to 3 years in prison.

The Corruption Court's verdict is a year lighter than the prosecutor's request, which asked the perpetrator to be sentenced to 4 years in prison.

Not long after the verdict, the prosecutor also filed an appeal to the Denpasar High Court.

The panel of judges of the High Court in their appeal decision published on the SIPP PN Denpasar website last month did not change the content of the Corruption Court's decision much.

However, there is an addition to the phrase that the defendant is proven guilty of continuous corruption as stated in the first indictment of the subsidiary prosecutor.

The panel of judges of the High Court also upheld the decision of the first instance court ordering I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Mataram to pay Rp1,022,258,750.00 within a month after the court's decision had permanent legal force (inkrah).

The money was taken from the perpetrators' partners, namely Rp80 million in cash from Kadek Agustina Putra, Rp816,572,250.00 in deposit, and Rp125,686,500.00 for the defendant.
