JAKARTA - Head of the Jakarta Formula E Organizing Committee, Ahmad Sahroni, admitted that he spent personal money to buy tickets for Formula E spectators.

Unmitigated, Sahroni bought hundreds of tickets in the circuit area in the VVIP Royal Suite, Grandstand, and Circuit Festival categories with a nominal value of IDR 1.2 billion.

The man, nicknamed Crazy Rich Priok, said that the tickets he bought would be distributed to hundreds of colleagues and the team he worked with.

"I bought tickets around (around) IDR 1.2 billion. I have a team from the era of 2013 that consisted of 640 people. Imagine, I bought all 640 people," said Sahroni at the media center of the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC), Ancol, North Jakarta, Friday, June 3.

However, this member of the House of Representatives revealed that the Formula E tickets in the circuit area which had been sold out were not caused by him. Because he only bought hundreds of the tens of thousands of tickets sold by the committee.

"It means that if you end up saying 'yes, it's natural, it's sold out', it's not worth it. This is not a village event that I bought everything, it's sold out," he said.

Sahroni said that buying tickets for the audience was done to prove his responsibility for the success of the electric car racing event.

"This is part of the responsibility that contributes to making Indonesia proud. So the value of IDR 1.2 billion is part of my participation as the person in charge and taking part in making Indonesia proud," said Sahroni.

The 2022 Formula E race is entering its ninth series. The racers will compete for speed and strategy at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) Ancol, Saturday, June 4.

Reporting from the official Formula E website, a series of racing agendas will take place in one day. Starting from free practice sessions, qualifying to the official race. Meanwhile, in terms of ticket sales, all categories in the circuit area have been sold out. What is left is only tickets outside the circuit, namely the Ancol Festival category.
