JAKARTA - Jakarta won the innovation of flood control systems at the world-class award event, WSIS Prizez 2022, which was held by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Member of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Justin Adrian Untayana, sees that it is useless if the DKI Provincial Government has a capable flood control system, but the implementation in the field is weak.

"Don't just focus on the flood control system. Because it's free. Why is the system sophisticated, but in the field the program is not clear. For example, infiltration wells. It's not appropriate," Justin said in his statement, Friday, June 3.

In fact, said Justin, Jakarta is still often flooded after it rains. Last time, at the same time as the announcement of the winner of this flood control system innovation, there were 22 RTs in East and South Jakarta that were flooded.

“Yesterday at the time of the announcement of the winners, there were 22 RTs that were flooded due to the overflow of the Ciliwung River. Even though the numbers are small, that doesn't mean they are ignored. So don't be happy just yet. We still have a lot of homework," Justin said.

Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Communication, Information and Statistics Agency, Atika Nur Rahmania, said that the flood control system award won by Jakarta outperformed other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Italy, Chile, and China in the E-Science category.

Atika said that Jakarta was also the only representative of Indonesia who was able to achieve the highest award this year as the champion.

“This award is a form of global recognition for our innovation, commitment and persistence in Jakarta. However, in fact, the highest award for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is the progress of the city and the happiness of the citizens of Jakarta," said Atika.

Atika explained that the flood control system created by the DKI Provincial Government functions to predict potential disasters before a flood occurs and optimizes control when floods inundate Jakarta.

"By building this system, we aim to increase public awareness of disaster situations, accelerate response to system-based disaster management, prepare for flood emergencies, and carry out real-time monitoring," he explained.

As is known, the Flood Control System was developed in order to optimize flood risk management in DKI Jakarta. This system allows the detection of flood points, so that information and disaster management can be mitigated and handled more quickly, accurately, and recorded.
