TRENGGALEK - Police officers from the Trenggalek Resort, East Java, arrested two men from Bandung with the initials AN and HAP on suspicion of being members of a gang that steals bank customers' money by using an automated teller machine (ATM) mode.

"We arrested the perpetrators after their actions in Trenggalek," said Trenggalek Deputy Police Chief Kompol Haryanto as reported by Antara, Thursday, June 2.

Kompol Haryanto said that there were actually four members of the ATM gang. However, the other two perpetrators have not been caught because they fled when they found out that their two colleagues, AN and HAP, had been arrested by the police.

Apart from taking action in Trenggalek, he said, they have also carried out their actions in Madiun Regency, Ponorogo Regency, and Jakarta.

The Deputy Chief of Police said the gang of four people shared roles and duties when squeezing customer balances at ATMs in the Trenggalek area.

He said the four perpetrators were responsible for the theft of the balances of two Trenggalek residents, resulting in a loss of Rp. 33.5 million.

"There are four perpetrators. Two with the initials AN and HAP have been arrested, while IA and RH are listed in the DPO (wanted list). We are still pursuing them," he said.
