BANDA ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has appealed to fishermen in Aceh not to go to sea first because strong winds will still hit Indonesia's westernmost province in the next two to three days.

BMKG Class I Data and Information Coordinator Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar Zakaria Ahmad said that currently the Aceh region was still in the west wind season so bad weather was common, in the form of high-speed winds that caused high sea waves.

"Sea waves starting in June, July, August are indeed high. Due to the west wind season in Aceh, the wind speed is higher, so it affects the height of the sea waves," said Antara, Thursday, June 2.

BMKG stated that for the northern waters of the Malacca Strait, northern waters of Sabang, West Aceh waters, and the western Indian Ocean of Aceh with an estimated sea wave height of 1.25-5 meters.

"This has entered the sea waves with a high category," he said.

The sea wave height in the crossing waters, he continued, was still in the low to medium category, both in the Sabang-Banda Aceh and Simeulue-Meulaboh crossings, which were between 0.1-2.5 meters so that they were safe, but we still had to be careful.

On average, he said, the wind speed in the sea waters of Aceh in the west season is between 20-40 kilometers per hour.

Therefore, Acehnese fishermen, especially in the south-west region, must be careful and do not go to sea just yet because the sea waves are still high.

"Even if you have to go to sea for economic reasons, don't go too far in the middle, so that when there is an increase in wind speed, an increase in sea wave height will quickly pull over," he said.

This appeal, said Zakaria, is issued every three days.

"Because even though this condition lasts until August, there are also days when the waves are not high or the wind speed is low," he said.

In addition, he said, the weather conditions in a number of districts/cities in Aceh have improved slightly compared to the last few days with wind speeds reaching 100 kilometers per hour.

Regarding wind speed, he said, we still have to be careful, especially for the City of Sabang. On land the wind speed is between 10-30 kilometers per hour.

"And for the areas of Lhokseumawe, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, Subulussalam, it is necessary to be aware of moderate rain and strong winds as well," he said.
