JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested former Yogyakarta Mayor Haryadi Suyuti on suspicion of bribery. In fact, Haryadi had just stepped down from his position.

Haryadi Suyuti's term of office ended on 22 May. After that, Yogyakarta will be led by an Acting Mayor (Pj) until the upcoming 2024 regional election.

"KPK has arrested several parties suspected of committing bribery in Yogyakarta," said Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, in a written statement, Thursday, June 2.

"One of those arrested is the Mayor of Yogyakarta 2017-2022," he added.

Ali has not detailed what the alleged bribery practice was that led to his arrest. All parties who were arrested in this activity are being investigated.

"The team immediately made a request for information on the parties in question. Soon after, we will convey the developments," he said.

Who is Haryadi Suyuti?

Quoted from walikota.jogjakota.go.id, Haryadi Suyuti was born in Yogyakarta, February 9, 1964. He is the first son of Zarkowi Soejoeti and Yayah Maskiyah.

His father was Chancellor of IAIN Walisongo Semarang, Secretary General of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (1997 - 1999), Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Syrian Arab Republic, and was also active in Muhammadiyah organizations (among others the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Serang Region in 1965 - 1969) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Baitul Mal PP Muhammadiyah 1996-1997). While his mother had been a DPRD Central Java Province.

Haryadi Suyuti is married to Tri Kirana Muslidatun and has 2 children. The first to study at the Faculty. Medicine UGM and both are still in elementary school.

Haryadi Suyuti's formal education started from SDN II IKIP Yogyakarta (graduated in 1976, SMPN 5 Semarang (graduated in 1980), SMAN 1 Yogyakarta (graduated in 1983), Si Fisipol UGM Yogyakarta (graduated in 1989).

He was the Chair of the Yogyakarta City Poverty Reduction Coordination Team (TKPK) (2007-2011), Member of the Economic and Entrepreneurial Council for Muhammadiyah Regional Leaders (2010-2014), Deputy Chair of the Yogyakarta Hajj Brotherhood Association (2010-2015), General Chairperson of PERBASI DIY (2011-2015) and General Chairperson of PSIM Yogyakarta (2010-2013)
