PADANG - A 15-meter-tall tree fell and destroyed the fence of a private elementary school (SD) in the Earthquake Monument area, Behind Tangsi Village, West Padang District, Padang City, West Sumatra.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Padang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Basril, said officers received information about a fallen tree at around 09.15 WIB.

After receiving information, officers from the Padang City BPBD Quick Response Team and the Head of Logistics evacuated and cleaned up the fallen tree.

"The tree that fell was the tamarind kuranji trunk with a diameter of one meter and a length of 15 meters," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 1.

According to him, the fallen tree was caused by rain and strong winds that occurred a few days ago, causing the fence of SD RK 2 Fransiskus in Rear Tangsi Village, West Padang District to be damaged.

"Currently, the fallen tree has been cleared at the scene and the loss due to this incident is estimated at Rp 2,000,000," he said.

Previously, rain and strong winds that hit the city of Padang on Friday (27/5) night until Saturday (28/5) in the morning also caused as many as 20 trees to fall in a number of locations in the city of Padang.
