The Sad Story Of Social Minister Risma When She Met The Elderly Who Were Dumped By Their Own Children, Some Asked To Be Injected With Death

TASIKMALAYA - Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini or Risma said that economic problems were one of the triggers for the occurrence of elderly people (elderly) being neglected by their families.

"Many elderly are abandoned by their children because they are considered troublesome. This is due to economic influences," said Social Minister Risma when delivering a speech at the 2022 National Elderly Day (HLUN) at Singaparna Medika Citrautama Hospital, Tasikmalaya, as reported by Antara, Sunday, May 29.

On that occasion, Risma recounted her meeting with a number of elderly people in the country who were abandoned by their families due to economic constraints. "I met the elderly who he dumped in the car. It turned out that the elderly had a receipt," he said.

Risma then involved the medical role to take care of the elderly until they recovered and returned to remember the address where he lived. "When he recovered he could remember the address. I sent (home) he didn't want to," he said.

On another occasion, Risma met an elderly person who came to her with asthma. To Risma, the elderly asked to be put to death because they felt that there was no family willing to take care of them at home.

"I took oxygen and he told me to ask for a lethal injection because there was no one to take care of him. He lives alone," he said.

Risma also asked the accompanying midwife to take care of the elderly and carry out routine health checks every day.

Risma said that the HLUN 2022 momentum was a reminder to the community to consistently accompany the elderly. "When we were babies, we couldn't do anything. They took care of us with joy, without any burdens, even though the economy was difficult," he said.

He said that neglect of parents is prohibited by religion and by law in Indonesia.

"We have to be strong, one day we will experience the same thing as being old, weak and helpless. Whoever he is who is valiant, they will feel that if they are given a long life," he said.
