JAKARTA - The roof of the Jakarta Formula E spectator stands collapsed ahead of the first week of the electric car racing event being held at the Ancol Circuit, North Jakarta.
The chairman of the Jakarta Formula E Organizing Committee, Ahmad Sahroni, said that the roof of the "grandstand" category of spectator stands collapsed on Friday, May 27, due to heavy rains that hit the capital city.
"The storm last night (27/5)," Sahroni told reporters via text message, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 28.
According to him, there was only one roof that collapsed for the "grandstand" audience stage category.
Currently, he continued, officers were repairing the collapsed roof.
"It's being raised again. It's safe," he added.
The photo of the collapsed roof of the audience at the Jakarta Formula E Circuit was circulating on social media which was uploaded by a citizen.
From the photo, the white skeleton and roof collapsed covering the yellow and red chairs.
The Formula E Jakarta event will be held on Saturday (4/6) at the Ancol Circuit which is located in the Ancol Dreamland Park, North Jakarta.
The committee sold about 60 thousand tickets with the cheapest price of Rp. 250 thousand and the most expensive Rp. 10 million.
Previously, the organizing committee for the Jakarta Formula E race said that so far the cheapest ticket sales have reached 45 percent for the "Ancol Festival" and "Circuit Festival" categories.
Tickets for the "Ancol Festival" and "Circuit Festival" categories are sold at a price of IDR 287 thousand and IDR 517 thousand including tax.
"So about 45 percent I think have just been sold," said Chairman of the Formula E Organizing Committee Ahmad Sahroni in Jakarta, Thursday (26/5).
Sahroni added that currently, the Formula E tickets with the more expensive price category had already been sold out.
