Dozens Of People Disappear Every Year In The Aare River, Where Ridwan Kamil's Children Are Drowned By The Current

JAKARTA - Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Muliaman Hadad said the Aare River, Bern, Switzerland, which is the location of the disappearance of the son of the West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, Emmiril Khan Mumtadz or Eril, often claimed victims. Each year, there are about 15-20 people who are declared missing.

"Similar incidents (to the currents, ed) roughly occur between 15-20 cases every year," Muliaman said in a press conference that was broadcast online, Saturday, May 28.

Although many cases are dragged by the current, the Aare River remains an option for residents who want to swim. Thus, an incident like what happened to Eril is not the first time this has happened.

However, to anticipate a similar incident, the local government has actually done many things. For example, installing signs or presenting information on sites owned by the local government as river managers.

People who want to visit the river, continued Muliaman, also just need to access the available information.

"What is the temperature, we don't need to come because the government has submitted complete data and information. Including the estimated current which averages 180-220 m3/second," he said.

Swimming in the flowing river is not only done by adults but also children, toddlers, and pets. However, they still refer to the information on the site that has been provided before carrying out their activities.

"Because this is a local custom, people usually refer to the source if they want to swim. Because not only adults, school children, toddlers, some even swim with their pets. So, I think the information is sufficient," explained Muliaman.

As previously reported, Eril was reported missing while swimming in the Aare River, Bern, Switzerland on Thursday, May 26. This incident occurred when he and his family were looking for a campus to continue their undergraduate education (S2).

Eril, who was swimming with his sister and friends in the Aare river at that time, was dragged by the current when he was about to rise to the surface. After this incident, the SAR team and local police immediately conducted a search.
