NTT - Traffic Director of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police Chief Commissioner Djoni Widodo noted a decrease in traffic violations during the implementation period of the Rinjani 2022 Safety Operation compared to the previous year.

"This decrease indicates that there is an increase in public awareness to obey driving rules," said Djoni in Mataram, NTB, quoted from Antara, Friday, May 27.

Djoni showed this decline, based on data on the implementation of the Rinjani 2022 Safety Operation which lasted for two weeks from 13-26 May 2022.

"Both tickets (evidence of violations) and reprimands for traffic violators this year recorded 8,422 cases. This is lower than the previous year with a record of 11,041 cases. The decrease is 2,619 cases with a percentage of 24 percent," he said.

Even the records were obtained by the NTB Regional Police from the Rinjani 2022 Safety Operation which was carried out more massively than the previous year.

"This year, there were more activities, there were 26,734 activities. While the previous year, 21,589 activities. An increase of 5,145 activities or an increase of 24 percent," he said.

In these activities, the police observe visible, preventive, preemptive violations, and take legal action in the form of ticketing.

Visible violations, including motorists who do not wear helmets, transporting passengers using open pickups, three-wheelers, and drivers who go against the flow of traffic.

Then preemptive activities, the police provide counseling about driving rules to school, school security patrols, "Police Goes To Campus", and the Saka Bhayangkara Krida Traffic Scouts.

Although traffic violations have decreased, Djoni reminded the public to obey the rules when driving.

"Make this existing rule a necessity for safety, not because of fear of being fined or being raided, but indeed because of awareness of the importance of safety for oneself and others," said Djoni.
