Buya Syafii's Will, Asks To Be Buried In Husnul Khotimah Muhammadiyah Kulon Progo Graveyard

YOGYAKARTA - Buya Syafii Maarif died today. Prior to his departure, the 86-year-old scholar had a will to be buried in the Husnul Khotimah Muhammadiyah Cemetery, Donomulyo Village, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).

This was conveyed by Buya Syafii to the Deputy Chair of the Service for Rukti Bodies at the Husnul Khotimah Donomulyo Cemetery, Umar Said Prawoto. This is because the graves of Muhammadiyah figures in Karangkajen Village are full.

"When he was first treated and allowed to go home, he told us whether he could become a member of the Husnul Khotimah Muhammadiyah Cemetery Service," Umar said at the Husnul Khotimah Donomulyo Cemetery site, quoted from Antara, Friday, May 27.

When showing the location of the grave, continued Umar, Buya Syafii was very interested and wanted to be buried in the Husnul Khotimah Tomb Park, Donomulyo Village.

Prawoto said this tomb was only inaugurated ahead of Ramadan 2020. Later, the grave of the late former chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Ahmad Syafii Maarif will be placed at the top location or a location specifically designated for Muhammadiyah figures.

"The tomb of Karangkajen which is also to bury Muhammadiyah figures is full, so he wants to be buried here (Husnul Khotimah Muhammadiyah Graveyard)," he said.

Husnul Khotimah Muhammadiyah Graveyard Keeper Arifin said this tomb was the burial place of Muhammadiyah members. This tomb was established 2 years ago with a burial area of one hectare and has been filled with 25 graves.

"For now, there are 25 tombs filled, plus Buya Syafii is buried here, so there will be a total of 26 graves later," said Arifin.

Indonesian scholar Buya Syafii passed away on Friday at 10.15 WIB at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region.

Buya Syafii had been treated at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, Sleman Regency, since May 14, 2022 due to shortness of breath.

Previously in March 2022, Buya Syafii was also treated at the same hospital due to a mild heart attack.
