President Jokowi Scheduled To Visit Buya Syafii's Body

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to mourn the body of Buya Syafii Maarif at the Gede Kauman Mosque, Yogyakarta City.

"Mr. President is visiting Yogyakarta this afternoon," said Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi as quoted by Antara, Friday, May 27.

The former chairman of the Buya Muhammadiyah Central Executive, Syafii Maarif, passed away on Friday, 27 May 2022, at 10.15 at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, Yogyakarta.

"Walking to the Great Mosque of Kauman Yogya," continued Heru.

Previously, President Joko Widodo expressed his deep condolences for the death of Buya Syafii Maarif through the official Instagram account @Jokowi.

"Inna lillāhi wa inna ilaihi rājiun, on behalf of the government, the people of Indonesia, I send my deepest condolences on the passing of Buya Syafii. May all the deeds of worship of the deceased be accepted by Allah SWT, his mistakes are forgiven, and the entire family left is patient and steadfast," said President Jokowi.

In his statement, President Jokowi recalled that 2 months ago he visited Buya Syafii in Sleman.

"Two months ago, I came to visit Buya Syafii at his residence in Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta, when he just got out of the hospital after several days of treatment. At that time, he was healthy and looked fit," said the President.

According to the President, that was his last meeting with Buya Syafii.

President Jokowi said Buya Syafii Maarif was a beloved national figure.

"Goodbye, the National Teacher," said the President.

Buya Syafii was treated at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, Sleman, due to a mild heart attack.

His condition then improved so that Buya Syafii was allowed to return home at the end of March 2022.

On March 26, 2022, President Jokowi visited Buya Syafii and was accompanied by Haedar Nasir. However, in mid-May 2022, Buya returned to the hospital.
