JAKARTA - Member of the PDIP faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Gilbert Simanjuntak, criticized the DKI Provincial Government's plan to expand the odd-even application from 13 points to 25 points.
Gilbert views that the return of the odd-even system as before the COVID-19 pandemic will add to the burden on society.
"The people need a better solution in overcoming congestion, not just an odd-even expansion. The addition of odd-even sections from 13 roads to 25 roads only adds to the burden on the people," Gilbert said in his statement, Thursday, May 26.
This member of Commission B of the DKI DPRD said that the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, had no sensitivity in seeing the burdens of the community.
This is because the odd-even expansion will make people look for other ways to move. Thus, the fuel released will be even greater.
"Odd-even only increases the length of the travel route and adds to the burden on the people. The wider it is, the greater the burden on the people to buy fuel. It is impossible for residents to use their cars for only 6 months a year because of this policy," he said.
Previously, the Head of the DKI Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, explained that the plan to restore the odd-even system on 25 roads was due to the increasing traffic volume, along with the easing of restrictions on community activities.
"So, after Lebaran, on the traffic side there is a very high density and volume on some roads and on some odd-even roads," said Syafrin.
This, said Syafrin, has caused several alternative roads in the city center to become congested. Whereas previously when there were 25 odd-even roads in the Jakarta business center according to Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 88 of 2019, vehicle traffic was sloping.
"Indeed, there is a massive movement from outside to inside. So, by applying it to 25 roads, we hope that traffic performance on busy roads will decrease again," he said.
