JAKARTA - The Central Java surveillance team continues to work on the spread of Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) in livestock. They are also waiting for a vaccine for PMK which is planned to be ready in two months.
This was conveyed by the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo after checking the assistance for Productive Labor Intensive in Tijayan Village, Manisrenggo District, Klaten Regency. Ganjar said that currently his party is still monitoring PMK.
"The PMK is still under our monitoring and thank God the ministry has prepared it," said Ganjar, Wednesday, May 25.
He said that his party continues to communicate with experts related to the handling of PMK. According to the epidemiologists he met, the handling of PMK is similar to dealing with COVID-19.
“So those who are sick are examined, and those who are positive are quarantined and treated. When the treatment is carried out, it is hoped that it will prevent more transmission," said Ganjar.
Quarantine models and systems, he added, have also been prepared by teams in each district/city. The surveillance team continues to move to take initial handling steps.
“Yesterday I met a person who actually works in the ministry of agriculture who works in vaccine production. In about two months (the vaccine is available), there is no need to panic," he said.
While waiting for the vaccine to be ready, Ganjar said strict supervision was carried out by observing and locking the movement of animals between provinces.
"We are now conducting strict monitoring, including the movement of animals between provinces, between regions that have been infected with a lot of FMD, for us to lock them so they don't come out," he said.
For information, based on data from the Livestock and Animal Health Service on May 17, it was detected that a total of 48 livestock that were positive for FMD, spread over 13 regions.
