PANGKALPINANG - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said more than 1,700 cattle in East Java Province have been declared cured of Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD).

"A total of 1,700 more than 7,000 cattle infected with FMD have recovered," said Khofifah Indar Parawansa while attending the signing of the trade mission memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Pangkalpinang, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.

Khofifah said the total cattle population in East Java reached 5.1 million heads, and only 7,000 of them were infected with FMD, so there are 5 million more heads in East Java in good health," he said.

Therefore, said Khofifah, ahead of Eid al-Adha 2022, East Java is ready to supply the needs of sacrificial animals for the people of Bangka Belitung.

According to him, currently there are several regencies in East Java that are in the PMK red and yellow zones, but there are still quite a number of regencies/cities in East Java that are included in the PMK green zone category.

"We have set points that are prohibited for the entry and exit of livestock, because the process of transmitting this livestock virus is through carbon that can be blown away by the wind," he said.

According to Khofifah, the import and export of livestock in East Java is only carried out at points that are still categorized as green.

"This is to prevent the spread of FMD, because the transmission of this virus is through the wind along the two kilometers and can increase the number of cattle infected with FMD," he said.
