The woman who is familiarly called Sri said that the incident occurred at around 04.30 WIB Monday (23/5). At that time he was taking ablution water in the river for the Fajr prayer.

At that time he had seen a floating object not far from the place of ablution. He didn't realize that what he thought was a floating tree trunk was actually a crocodile.

Unexpectedly, the crocodile pounced on Sri's left leg. The ferocious beast immediately pulled him into the river. He felt at least three times the crocodile, which was estimated to be about three meters long, pulled him into the river.

When he shouted, several residents came to the location but could not do much because his body was taken into the river. Sri who kept trying to rebel finally managed to make the crocodile release its bite.

"This is my leg still hurts. Hopefully there will be no problems. Hopefully it will get better soon," Sri said after undergoing an X-ray examination at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Head of Central Bagendang Village, Untung Sukardi, who was met in his village, said that this was the first time a crocodile attack had occurred in his village. This incident in cash made local residents become afraid and anxious.

"When the crocodile struck a person, the residents were not surprised. After the incident happened in our village, now the residents are wary. That's why we urge the public to increase their vigilance," said Untung.

He explained that the Sampit River, which crosses their village and empties into the Mentaya River, is known to have a population of crocodiles. Residents have seen crocodiles appear in the waters opposite the residents' settlements, but did not expect the crocodiles to attack humans.

The village government will install warning signs and outreach to remind the public to increase vigilance when doing activities in the river. He also hopes that the relevant agencies will make efforts to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

"Some of our people still often do activities in the river every day, so we are certainly worried about this incident. We hope that there are efforts to help this," said Untung.

According to him, some time ago BKSDA had tried to catch crocodiles in the area. Fortunately, BKSDA hopes that similar efforts will be carried out again so that the crocodile can be caught and relocated.
