JAKARTA - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has issued a new regulation, namely the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 73 of 2022 concerning Registration of Names on Population Documents.

In the Permendagri, it is stated that the recording of names on population documents is carried out in accordance with the principles of religious norms, norms of decency, norms of decency, and in accordance with statutory regulations.

Director General of Population and Civil Registration Zudan Arif Fakhrulloh explained that this rule was made because many names recorded in population documents have negative meanings and are contrary to moral norms.

"There are names that have negative meanings such as 'Ugly', Crazy People', 'H. Devil', 'Aji Satan', 'Hell IU'. There are also many names that are contrary to the norms of decency. For example, 'Butt', 'Aurel Vagina', 'Lambe Penis'," said Zudan in his statement, quoted on Tuesday, May 24.

In addition, continued Zudan, there are names that have a negative effect on the child's condition, such as "Rat", "Stupid", and "Crazy Person".

"There are also those who name their children using the names of state institutions, representing or resembling positions, ranks, awards, for example 'Supreme Court', 'Mr. President', 'Police', 'Regent', 'Mayor'," said Zudan.

Zudan said that the names he gave an example of had the potential to become a burden on his mind and interfere with a child's development when he was named with these words. Thus, Permendagri Number 72 of 2022 is expected to prevent the name from reappearing.

"Names that have a negative meaning, contrary to religious norms, decency and decency will be a burden on the child's development until he is an adult, for life and even until he gives birth, because names are given only once in a lifetime," explained Zudan.
