The government has heard of many cases of land mafias who have seized people's land as well as state land, said Mahfud. In recent months, cases of alleged embezzlement of land rights by the land mafia were revealed after being investigated by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Attorney General's Office.

Some of the land mafia cases, including the cases in Cipayung, East Jakarta and in Depok, West Java, involving retired civil servants (PNS) within the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov).
