Gerindra DKI Asks For Formula E Circuit Names To Be Changed To Indonesian Language

JAKARTA - Member of the Gerindra faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Syarif, believes that the naming of the Formula E Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) violates the constitution. He asked for the name to be changed to Indonesian.

This refers to Law Number 24 of 2009 concerning the Flag, Language, and Emblem of the State, as well as the National Anthem. In this regulation, the name of the building or facility owned by the state needs to be named using the Indonesian language.

The obligation to use the Indonesian language is also stated in Presidential Regulation 63 of 2019.

"As in the regulations, everything that is funded by the state must comply with the rules. The rule is that the names do not use foreign languages," said Syarif, Saturday, May 21.

If the name JIEC is still used, Syarif suggested adding the Indonesian name to it. "If you want both, use Indonesian and English," he suggested. However, the Secretary of Commission D was reluctant to name a replacement for the Formula E circuit. Syarif left the selection of names to the experts in order to determine the name of the circuit properly and appropriately.
