Using Trawl, 3 Fishing Vessels Arrested PSDKP Lampulo

BANDA ACEH - The Lampulo Marine Fisheries Resource Monitoring Base (PSDKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has secured three fishing vessels using trawling or trawling.

Head of PSDKP Lampulo Akhmadon said the three ships namely KM Dwiyansyah and KM Jaya each with a size of 28 gross tons and KM Teguh weighed 10 GT.

"The three fishing boats using trawls were arrested by the Sibolga SDKP Satwas patrol officer on Wednesday and Thursday. One of the three vessels was caught in a separate place in the waters of the Indian Ocean," said Akhmadon in Banda Aceh, Antara, Friday, May 20.

The arrests of the three fishing motorboats began with the patrol of the Sibolga SDKP Satwas which is a work unit of PDSKP Lampulo, Banda Aceh, using the KP Napoleon 036 ship around Mursala Island, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra last Wednesday.

While on patrol, the Sibolga SDKP Satwas team saw two fishing boats namely KM Dwiyansyah and KM Jaya filling drinking water on the island in the Indian Ocean. The patrol team docked to the two ships.

"However, the team saw all the crew fleeing towards the forest on Mursala Island. After waiting for about 2 hours, they did not come out of the forest and returned to the ship," said Akhmadon

Akhmadon said the patrol team found fishing gear in the form of trawlers on the two boats. The team then secured the trawling to the Sibolga SDKP base for further processing.

The next day, said Akhmadon, the Sibolga SDKP team who was patrolling the Indian Ocean waters found KM Teguh 8 using a fishing tool in the form of a trawler. The ship is listed with a size of 10 GT, but physically the size of the ship is estimated to reach 25 GT.

"The patrol team immediately approached KM Teguh 8 and stopped fishing activities and inspected the ship. During the inspection, the team found 200 kilograms of mixed fish. The team secured the trawler, navigation tools and mobile phones," said Akhmadon.

Akhmadon emphasized that the arrest was a commitment from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to eradicate the use of prohibited and environmentally unfriendly fishing gear such as trawl trawls.

"The enforcement of illegal fishing gear is in the context of guarding the blue economy program and realizing measurable and sustainable fishing," said Akhmadon.

Akhmadon said PSDKP Lampulo has secured dozens of trawl trawl gear, both confiscated from control operations or handed over voluntarily by fishermen.

"The use of trawl fishing gear is still quite common in WPPNRI 571 the Malacca Strait and WPPNRI 572 in the Indian Ocean. We will continue to regulate the use of these prohibited fishing gear," said Akhmadon.
