ACEH - The panel of judges at the Idi District Court, East Aceh Regency, sentenced the defendant to possess 133 kilograms of methamphetamine, named Bulhaini, to life imprisonment.

The verdict was read by a panel of judges chaired by Apriyanti accompanied by Tri Purnama and Asra Saputra respectively as member judges at the trial at the Idi District Court in East Aceh, Thursday, 19 May.

The trial was attended by a team of prosecutors, Ivan Najjar Alavi, Cherry Arida, and Iqbal Zaqwan, from the East Aceh District Attorney. Meanwhile, the defendant Bulhaini alias Dedek bin Sulaiman (42) attended the trial of the Idi Penitentiary in East Aceh Regency.

The sentence with a life sentence is lighter than the prosecutor's demand for the death penalty against Bulhaini. The panel of judges stated that Bulhaini was legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number/2009 concerning Narcotics.

The team of prosecutors declared an appeal against the judge's decision because it was not appropriate or lighter than the demands read out at the previous trial.

"We will take legal action against the panel of judges' decision on the defendant Bulhaini. An appeal will be taken after we receive a copy of the verdict to find out why the judge's verdict is not in accordance with the demands," said Arida as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 19.

Bulhaini was arrested by a joint team from the Aceh Police's Drug Investigation Directorate and the East Aceh Police's Drug Investigation Unit with 133 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine as evidence on December 3, 2021.
