Children Face The Law: Observers Ask Police To Find Ways To Prevent Violent Perpetrators From Repeating The Same Action

TANGSEL - Criminal law expert Agustinus Pohan spoke about the mistreatment of MZA, a 16-year-old boy who was tortured by his friends in South Tangerang (Tangsel).

According to Agustinus, the perpetrators who are still underage do not have the ability to justify their actions. Therefore, they will not be detained.

"For the ability to be responsible, the minimum must be over 12 years. So if you are not 12 years old, you cannot be held criminally responsible," said Pohan when contacted by VOI, Thursday, May 19.

However, Pohan asked the police to find a way for the perpetrators of the violence. The goal is that they don't do the same thing.

"According to him, I need to involve, maybe the social service or an institution to re-educate (the perpetrators). So that it doesn't happen to other parties later," he said.

"Investigators should also take the initiative to direct the institutions that are asked for assistance in providing treatment to these children," he added.

Previously, it was reported that the police arrested four of the eight people suspected of committing violence against MZA (16) in the Serpong area, South Tangerang. However, the 4 perpetrators were children under 12 years old.

"In terms of age, the 4 perpetrators are still around 12 years old," said South Tangerang Police Chief AKBP Sarly Sollu.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Tangerang Police, AKP Aldo Primananda Putra, said that four of the eight people were detained by his side, only being asked for information.

In addition, the police have coordinated with the head of the local RT, the parents of the perpetrator and the victim. As well as clarifying parental assistance.

He said his party would ask for information from the other four perpetrators. This is done to find out what actually happened.
