BINTAN - The Toapaya Fire Service Technical Service Unit (UPTD Damkar), Bintan Regency, Riau Islands confirmed that a 3 meter estuarine crocodile entered the fishing gear of local fishermen. The crocodile has now been evacuated.

"It's true, there was an estuarine crocodile trapped in the fishing gear of fishermen," said Head of UPTD Damkar Makmur in Bintan, Riau Islands as quoted by Antara, Thursday, Thursday, May 19.

Makmur said the incident began when a fisherman named Sal was about to lift a fishing gear in the form of a coral kelong trap that was installed in the sea waters of Pengujan Village, Teluk Bintan District today at around 08.00 WIB.

When lifting the trap to see the fish caught, Sal was surprised to find an estuarine crocodile entangled in his fishing gear. Worried about the existence of the large reptile, he immediately reported it to Bhabinkamtibmas and the Toapaya Fire Service UPTD.

After receiving the report, said Makmur, the Toapaya Firefighters team, assisted by the Kijang Damkar UPTD, immediately went to the field to evacuate the crocodiles.

"The evacuation process was conducive. At around 09.30 WIB, the crocodile was successfully evacuated," said Makmur.

Furthermore, Makmur said that at this time the crocodile had been handed over to the zoo in the Lagoi tourist area, Bintan, as an additional collection of animals at that location.

Makmur appealed to the public, especially in coastal areas, to be aware of the appearance of estuarine crocodiles because they could threaten life safety.

Moreover, a few weeks earlier, a junior high school student was killed by a crocodile while helping her grandfather find fish in the waters of the West Cross River, Kilometer 16, Bintan.

"Recently, crocodiles often appear in the waters of Bintan, so stay alert and report to the authorities if you encounter these animals in the surrounding environment," said Makmur.
